The Befriending Programme

The Befriending Programme is a volunteering programme aimed at helping third country nationals and beneficiaries of protection build relationships with local people in Malta, improving integration and promoting cross-cultural exchange and understanding.

What will it involve?

Participants will take part in training, outings and activities over a period of six months.

Once the initial training has been completed, each third country national or beneficiary of protection will be partnered with a Maltese nationals or long-term residents. They will meet with their partner individually as well as taking part in organised group activities, such as visiting nature parks or going to festivals.

Who can take part?

The programme is open to anyone 18 years and over. All participants need to have a basic level of English. We also need you to commit to take part in regular meetings and activities throughout the duration of the programme.

You will need to be open to new experiences, be flexible, and have a desire to learn about different cultures.

Maltese nationals and long-term residents need to commit to a series of regular training, on at least a weekly basis, for a period of around a month, before activities begin

And we’ll need all participants to keep in regular contact with the project throughout the programme!
