For the second year Kopin is collaborating with the Valletta Film Festival to screen ‘Delicate Balance’, which reveals universal issues that threaten humanity, and questions some of the fundamentals of the world in which we live. The screening will take place on Piazza San Gorg at 9pm on Sunday 18th June.  After the screening there will be the unique opportunity to meet the director of the film Guillermo Garcia Lopez.

Three stories in three different continents are intertwined in Delicate Balance (Frágil Equilibrio).

Japanese executives in Tokyo whose lives are in the vicious cycle of working in corporations; a sub Saharan community in the Gurugú Mount, near a border between Africa and Europe risk their lives every day trying to cross over; and families in Spain that are destroyed by the economic downturn and resulting evictions.

The film will be preceded by the short documentary FIXED!, a film about the success of Repair Cafes in a community in Toronto (Canada) directed by Cat Mills. Repair cafes are based on volunteer work and support the idea of fixing broken items rather than throwing them away. This will be a good opportunity to rethink our approach to consumption in Malta and look into starting Repair Café’s locally.

This collaboration is financed by SUSY – Social and Solidarity Economy, a project aiming at the promotion of a fair, ethical, people-based economy. SUSY is a Europe wide project, having a representative in almost all EU countries. Through SUSY, Kopin has been encouraging and supporting local social enterprises.

SUSY is supported by the European Union, the Voices Foundation and the Ministry for Social Dialogue, Consumer Affairs and Civil Liberties.
